Howard E. Krueger,  President

The last child of four born to the late Ewald and Leona Krueger, Howie was a 1978 graduate of North Syracuse High School. He attended the Mortuary Science Program at Herkimer Community College and took courses at O.C.C. and Columbia College before attending Simmons School of Mortuary Science. He graduated in 1983 with Honors having served as his Class President and Editor of the Yearbook.

Howie has owned and operated Krueger Funeral Home in Mattydale for over 40 years. He was the second-generation owner of the family business, taking over the reins when his father, Ed, passed away in 1993. He earned his certified celebrant credentials and was also an ordained minister performing a multitude of funerals and weddings…

Howie was a life retired member of the Mattydale Volunteer Fire Department serving as a Captain, President in 1999-2000, and is currently the Chaplin. He was the past President to the Mattydale-Hinsdale Chamber of Commerce in 1990-1992, the Plank Road Chamber of Commerce and a member of the Board of Directors for the Cicero-Plank Road Chamber of Commerce. Howard was a charter President of the North Syracuse Education Foundation and the Property Investors Enterprise Group of Syracuse. He was the past President of the Pitcher Hill Apartments and Bessie B. Riordan Apartments where he also served on their Board of Directors for many years. He was on the Board of Directors for the L. Frank Baum Foundation, NAVAC, and North Area Meals on Wheels. He was a member of the Patriot Guard Riders and served on the Superintendent Advisory Council for the North Syracuse Central School District.

Howie’s passion is his toys. Anything that would give him joy or an adrenaline rush. He enjoyed downhill skiing and competitive drag racing. Later in life, boating and motorcycles became his happy place. His love of motorcycles and the wind therapy they provided began in high school when he brought home a Honda 550, much to his parents' chagrin. At 50, Howie traded in his Harley Sportster for his first Bagger and traveled all over the Eastern United States from Maine to Key West including Sturgis and other points West to bike rally’s, historical sites, and majestic natural wonders. His annual early spring “nomad” trips with his Oswego County Brothers were very liberating because they didn’t plan more than a day at a time. Howie was a member of the Fire and Iron Motorcycle Club Station 99 of Syracuse which was an international group of Firefighters. Road named “Undertaker”, Howie served as the MC’s Road Captain, Sergeant at Arms, Vice President, and is currently the President of Station 99 as well as the Region 6 liaison of the Memorial Station 333.
