W. Sam Anderson, 79, of Castle Rd. North Syracuse died Saturday. A native of Ebensburg, PA Mr. Anderson had resided in North Syracuse for the past 46 years. He was an Alum of the University of Notre Dame and received a Masters degree in Electrical Engineering from Harvard.
Sam served in the US Navy aboard the USS Storm King in the Pacific theater during WW II. He retired in 1986 after more than 25 years as an Electrical Engineer with the heavy military division of the General Electric Co. in Syracuse. Sam was a Charter member of the North Area Volunteer Ambulance Corps and a communicant St. Rose of Lima Church. He was an avid outdoorsman and he enjoyed downhill skiing, rock climbing, bicycleling, boating, hiking, camping and orienteering. He was also a former Ski Instructor and member of the ski patrol at Labrador Mountain.
He was pre-deceased by his brother William M. Anderson in January. Sam is survived by his wife of 56 years the former Elaine Parkin, a daughter Barbara & Larry Messina of Liverpool, six sons W. Sam III & Sara of Mattydale, David W. & Carol of Bloomfield, James M. & Deborah of Liverpool, Joseph S. & Leslie of Orange Park FL, Jonathan L. & Patricia of Syracuse, Thomas E. & Meg of Baldwinsville, 19 grandchildren and 1 great grandson.
Services will be at 10 am Thursday in St. Rose of Lima Church in North Syracuse. Burial will be in Pine Plains Cemetery, Clay. Calling hours will be Wednesday from 4 to 7 pm at Krueger Funeral Home, 2619 Brewerton Rd., Mattydale, NY 13211.
