Andrew R. Messer

Andrew R. Messer, 80, of Syracuse, passed away Sunday, March 16, 2025, at his home. A native of Manchester, Ohio, he was a graduate of Manchester High School. Andy was a veteran of Vietnam serving in the Navy for 7 years, then entering the N.Y. Air National Guard from which he retired after 22 years. He also worked for Eastern Ambulance Service before working at the VA Medical Center for 28 years and retiring in 1999.

Andy was a life member of the American Legion, a member of the Mattydale Post #1832, and past Commander of the Onondaga County American Legion. He was also a life member of AMVETS Post #749, 40/8, VFW Post #7290 and AAoNHC (American Association of Naval Hospital Corpsman) where he served as Vice President, as well as a dual member of Sons of the American Legion. Andy was the past Commander of the Eastwood American Legion Post #1276.

He was predeceased by his wife, Mary, a son, Brian, his parents, Charles and Hester, and a sister, Norma Jean.

Andy is survived by daughters: Dawn (John) Breedlove and Kimberley (Paul) Tackman; daughter-in-law, Hope Messer; grandchildren: Crystal (Derek) Franklin, Brandon Messer, Zachary and AJ Tackman; a step-grandson, Michael (Lauren) Breedlove; three great grandsons, TJ and Aaron Breedlove, and Logan Messer; his sister, Marianne (Jim) Bean of Ohio; along with numerous nieces and nephews.

Friends may call on Monday, March 24, from 4:00 – 7:00 pm at Krueger Funeral Home, 2619 Brewerton Rd., Mattydale. Funeral Services will begin at 8:00 am on Tuesday, March 25, at the funeral home with burial to follow at Veteran’s Memorial Cemetery.
