Donald M. Arras, 94, of North Syracuse, died Thursday at St. Joseph?s Hospital. Donald was a native of Schenectady where he grew up and resided on Elaine Ave in North Syracuse for the past 60 years. He was the son of the late Melvin and Minnie Arras.
Donald was an Army Corps Veteran of World War II and served in the Pacific Theater and the Pearl Harbor Invasion. He retired in 1978 after 30 years as a dispatcher for Exxon Oil Company in Syracuse. Donald was a member of the Pearl Harbor Survivors Association and formerly attended Andrews Memorial United Methodist Church.
He was predeceased by his wife of 60 years, the former Olga Sawka, one week ago on February 11, 2010.
Surviving are his two daughters: Deborah, at home and Donna Louis Brown of Manlius; a son: Melvin Barbara Arras of Fulton; and his two grandchildren, Donald and Laura.
Graveside services for both Donald and Olga will be held at North Syracuse Cemetery on Tuesday at 11 am.
