James "Jamie" A. Atkins, 50, of North Syracuse, died Wednesday at home. Jamie grew up in Mattydale and was a 1979 graduate of North Syracuse High. He was a US Army veteran who served as a military police officer stationed in Germany. He drove taxi for 15 years for the North Area Taxi Service and prior to that, he was a tractor trailer driver. Jamie was a member of the Military Brotherhood Biker Club where he was known as "Furby". He was a member of St. Margaret's Church.
He was predeceased by his mother, Rosemary, in 2001 and by his two sons, James Atkins II and Paul Jeffrey Atkins.
Surviving are his four children: Matthew April Atkins of NC, Jeffrey Michele McAllister of Syracuse, Ashley Christopher Atkins-Dupra of Syracuse, and Victoria Bobby Baker Atkins of North Syracuse; his father, Charles Atkins of Mattydale; three brothers: Charles Atkins, Jr. of Mattydale, John Atkins of VA, and Thomas Atkins of Central Square; and thirteen grandchildren.
Friends may call Sunday from 1-4 pm at Krueger Funeral Home, 2619 Brewerton Rd., Mattydale. A Prayer service will begin Monday at 9:30 am at the funeral home followed by a 10 am Mass of Christian Burial at St. Margaret's Church. Burial will be in North Syracuse Cemetery. Contributions may be made to the family c/o Krueger Funeral Home.
