Edward S. Austin, 67, of Clay, died Tuesday unexpectedly at home. Born in Phoenix, NY, Edward graduated from J.C. Birdlebough High School in 1965. He lived in Liverpool for many years before moving to Clay last year and he was the son of the late Harrison and Eleanor (Morrow) Austin.
Edward served in the US Navy during the Vietnam War aboard the USS Longbeach in South East Asia. He retired in 2004 after 32 years as an inspector in the Conditioning Department of Crucible Specialty Metals in Solvay. Edward was a member of the VFW Post #153 in Baldwinsville and he played cards at the VFW Post in Phoenix with his friends. He enjoyed playing golf, fishing and spending time with his grandchildren. Edward was also a sports enthusiast who frequently watched college sports. He was a former communicant of St. Stephen's Church in Phoenix and St. Elizabeth Ann Seton in Baldwinsville.
Edward was predeceased by his brother, Bill Austin.
He is survived by his three children: Marie (Howard) Bigness of Liverpool, Patrick (Amy) Austin of Syracuse, and Erin (Tim) Power of Baldwinsville and their mother, Kathleen of Baldwinsville; two brothers: James of AL, and Charles of Syracuse; NY; a sister-in-law, Janice Austin of Liverpool; his three grandchildren: Macenzie, Kayleigh, and Justin; and by two nieces.
Friends may call on Tuesday from 4-7 pm at Krueger Funeral Home, 2619 Brewerton Rd., Mattydale. Funeral Services will begin on Wednesday, 10 am at St. Margaret's Church. Burial will be in Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Syracuse.
