Barbara L. Appleton

February 13, 1932 — July 20, 2024

Formerly of Cicero

Barbara L. Appleton, 92, formerly of Cicero, passed away Saturday, July 20th, 2024, surrounded by those she loved. A native of Syracuse, Barbara was a 1950 graduate of North High and was the daughter of the late William M. and Lucy (Eagle) Griep. She resided in the Cicero & North Syracuse area where she and Ed raised their family with the exception of 10 years spent in Oakland, NJ.

 Barbara worked for New York Telephone for several years as a records clerk before leaving to become at stay-at-home mom. She volunteered on Tuesdays at North Area Meals on Wheels for many years and was a life member of the Nate Perry PTA. She and Ed have driven cross country five times and loved spending quality time with her family and friends. Barbara enjoyed cooking and sewing. She made her family's clothing for years and created over 200 dresses for "Dresses for Haiti". Barbara was a longtime member of Luther Memorial Lutheran Church in North Syracuse. a member of their Altar Guild and Quilting Group, and taught Sunday School.

 In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her brothers, Ronald Griep and Rev. Allen Griep.

Barbara is survived by her husband of 70 years, Edgar Appleton; their three daughters: Susan (Anthony) Morabito of Virginia, Cathy (James) Wise of San Leandro, CA, and Julie (Paul) Rumo of West Monroe with whom she resided; nine grandchildren: Suzie, Chrissie, Kelly, Matthew, Zachary, Emily, Kenson, Kenzie, and Kenley; and by 13 Great Grandchildren. 

In lieu of flowers, contributions in Barbara's memory may be made to Luther Memorial Church, 435 S. Main St., North Syracuse, NY 13212.
