Dorothy “Aunt Dot” Bedford, went to be with the Lord the morning of January 16, 2022, just two months after her 90th birthday celebration. A lifelong resident of Syracuse, Dorothy grew up in Mattydale and was a 1949 graduate of North Syracuse High School. Dorothy was an active member of many social organizations but was closest to her dear friends who call themselves the Red Hat Rejects and her golf buddies known as the Swingers.
Dorothy was best known for her quick wit, delightful sense of humor, and maintaining lifelong friendships. She had a way of letting people know they were important to her. She would send hundreds of cards every year to friends and family for every occasion. Each card included a personal, typewritten message. Her collection of frogs was second to none and brought many hours of joy and fond memories.
While Dorothy was never blessed with any of her own, she had many honorary children and grandchildren whom she loved dearly and who loved her in return.
Dorothy was predeceased by her beloved husband, Basil “Barney” Bedford; parents, Donald and Frances Lathrop; and sisters: Barbara June, Carol Jean, Nancy Joan and Virginia Judy.
She is survived by several nieces and nephews, great nieces and nephews, great great nieces and nephews, and many special friends. She will truly be missed. In lieu of flowers, donations can be sent to Vera House or Hospice of Oneida, Herkimer and Eastern Madison Counties.
Family and friends may call on Saturday from 10:00 AM – 11:30 AM at Krueger Funeral Home, 2619 Brewerton Road, Mattydale. Funeral Services will begin at 11:30 AM followed by burial in North Syracuse Cemetery. Masks will be required as per current NYS regulations.
