Catherine Beechner

Catherine "Granny" Beechner, 97, died Thursday, July 21, 2016 , at Van Duyn Nursing Home in Syracuse. A native of Eastwood, Catherine was a 1937 graduate of Eastwood High and was the daughter of the late Herbert and Ada (Cooper) Shelton. She moved to the Mattydale area in 1950.

Catherine retired in 1990 after more than 15 years as a sales clerk at Switz's in Pitcher Hill. She had previously worked at Sam's Toy and Hobby in Northern Lights for several years and also for General Electric in the 1950's. Catherine was a member of the Salina Civic Seniors and worked for the Board of Elections in the Town of Salina. She was an avid S.U. sports fan. She also bowled on various leagues at Strike 'N Spare Lanes and enjoyed traveling especially to Disney World and Casinos. Catherine was a communicant of St. Margaret's Church in Mattydale.

She was predeceased by her husband of 64 years, Elgin "Bill" Beechner, in 2004.

Catherine is survived by three children: Sharon (Carl) Rock of Parish, Daniel (Joanne) Beechner of Orlando, FL, and Matthew (Kathleen) Beechner of Mattydale; 9 grandchildren: Michael, Melinda, Cynthia, Brian, Eileen, Heather, Amy, Brian, and Shawn; 12 great grandchildren; 2 great great grandchildren.

Friends may call on Monday from 5 - 7 pm at Krueger Funeral Home, 2619 Brewerton Rd., Mattydale, NY. A Prayer Service will begin Tuesday, 9:30 am, at the funeral home followed by a 10:00 am Mass of Christian Burial at St. Margaret's Church. Burial will be in North Syracuse Cemetery.
