Florence ?Flo? M. Benkoski, 88, of Greenbriar Rd., North Syracuse died Monday at St. Joseph?s Health Care Center. Born in Boston on January 21, 1917, she married Maj. Ernest F. Benkoski USAF Ret. in Indiana in 1943 and on May 1st, they celebrated their 62nd anniversary. Together they lived in Panama, France, Morocco and Libya in addition to various states in the U.S. during Ernest?s military career. They eventually settled in North Syracuse in 1965. Flo retired in 1984 after more than 16 years as a teacher?s-aid at the Smith Road Elementary school, in the North Syr. Central School District. She was a communicant of St. Margaret?s RC Church in Mattydale. In retirment, they enjoyed their grandchildren's involment in figure skating and hockey.
Surviving in addition to her husband, Ernest, are her four children E. Richard Benkoski, married to Jeanne Sullivan of Venice, FL, Elaine M. Benkoski of Norwood, MA, David P. Benkoski, married to MaryAnn Wooster of Clay, Gerard J. Benkoski, married to Loreen Lanni of Clay, five grandchildren Jennifer Reale of Connecticut, Adam W. Benkoski of Columbia, Maryland, Kimberly A. Benkoski of Baltimore, Maryland, Brian P. and Craig J. Benkoski of Clay, New York.
Friends may call from 10:30 to 12:30 am Thursday at the Krueger Funeral Home 2619 Brewerton Rd., Mattydale, followed by a funeral services at 12:30 pm and a mass of Christian Burial at 1pm in St. Margaret?s Church. Burial will be in Onondaga Co. Veterans Cemetery.
