Velma H. Brisson, 100, of Mattydale, died Sunday at Elderwood at Liverpool. Born in Rockwell Springs, Velma grew up in Syracuse and was the last surviving child born to the late Irving and Harriette (Dunbar) Hatch. She was a 1936 graduate of Vocational High School. Velma married her husband and the future father of her eight children on September 5, 1941 and they settled in Mattydale 60 years ago together to raise their family.
Velma worked for Deluxe Check Printing as well as Bessie B. Riordan School. She taught Religious Education during the 1960's and sold Tupperware for a short time. Velma volunteered as a Brownie Leader and enjoyed crafting. She sold her works at local area craft shows. Velma was a member of the former Calvary United Methodist Church.
She was predeceased by her husband of 57 years, George Brisson, in 1998 and by their daughter, Georgia, in 1974.
Velma is survived by seven children: Nancy Brisson of Liverpool, Hubert "Hugh" (Barbara) Brisson of Cape Coral, FL, Sandra (Richard) Valentine of Titusville, FL, Ronald (Karen) Brisson, Connie Clark, Dawn Brisson, all of Mattydale, and Bonnie (Frank) Burnatowski of Pennellville; 13 grandchildren; 31 great grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
Friends may call on Friday from 4-7 pm at Krueger Funeral Home, 2619 Brewerton Rd., Mattydale. Funeral Services are Saturday, 10 am at the funeral home with burial in North Syracuse Cemetery. A family gathering will follow the services at Barbagallo's restaurant in East Syracuse.
