Patrick Burkett, 90, of Hinsdale Rd., Mattydale, passed away at home Saturday.
He was a native of Kingston, Ontario and the son of the late Patrick and Irene Burkett. He grew up up in the city of Syracuse, graduating from St. Lucy's High School in 1937. He then served with the 4th division of the US Marine Corps during WW II in the pacific theater including the battle of Iwo Gima. Upon returning he resided in Mattydale since 1950.
Patrick retired in 1980 after 20 years as a carpenter for Syracuse University. He was a communicant of St. Margaret's church and volunteered as an usher. He also served for many years as a scout master for the Boy Scout Troop #158.
Patrick was predeceased by his wife of 63 years the former Rita LeFebure in 2006 and a son William in 2003.
He is survived by his five children David Maureen Burkett of North Syracuse, Thomas Bonnie Burkett of Liverpool, Patrick Annie Burkett of Greensboro NC, Theresa David Evans of Lexington VA, Timothy Kelly Burkett of DeWitt; 15 grandchildren, six great grandchildren several nieces and nephews.
Friends may call Tuesday from 4 -7pm at Krueger Funeral Home, 2619 Brewerton Road, Mattydale. Services are 9:30 am Wednesday at the funeral home followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 am in St. Margaret's Church. Burial will be in Assumption Cemetery.
