Edward Calabria, 88, of Brown Ave. in Mattydale, passed away peacefully surrounded by his family at Crouse Hospital on Tuesday, March 17, 2015. Edward was born and raised in Syracuse and was a longtime communicant and usher at St. Margaret's Church. He was a member of the IACC (Italian American Athletics Club), the G.E. Survivors Club and the West End Survivors Club.
Ed was a graduate of Blodgett Vocational High School where he excelled in sports. He was All-County and played semi-pro football with the Syracuse Stars as a young man. Ed went on to serve in the U.S. Navy during WWII aboard the USS Duluth in the Pacific Theatre. Ed retired after 30 years as a Production Specialist for General Electric Heavy Military Division and then worked for the Onondaga County Sheriff's Dept. as a court attendant for 10 years.
He was predeceased by his wife, the former Angeline (Garofalo), his parents, Otto and Catherine (Cuoco) Calabria and by his three brothers, Patsy, Louis and Anthony.
Ed is survived by his two sons: Otto (Linda) and John (Mary), both of Mattydale; five grandchildren: Cynthia, Christine, Anna, Catie and Emma; and 12 great grandchildren.

Friends may call on Tuesday from 4-7 pm at Krueger Funeral Home, 2619 Brewerton Rd., Mattydale. Prayer service will begin at the funeral home on Wednesday, 9:15 am, followed by a 10 am Mass of Christian Burial at St. Margaret's Church, 203 Roxboro Rd., Mattydale. Entombment will be in Assumption Mausoleum, Syracuse.
