Rose (Rosa Cronotti) Calandra died Sunday, February 25, 2018 at Iroquois Nursing Home. She was 101 years old. Born in Syracuse on July 14, 1916, Rose lived most of her life in Mattydale with her husband Joe.
Together they raised their four children in a home where Rosie’s kitchen was always open. Her food and her stories were shared with countless family, neighbors, friends of all ages, and more than a few strangers.
While her home and family were her life, Rose was legendary for her Scrabble skills. She was a worthy opponent who was hard to beat. Rose loved people, her home, her country and “this beautiful planet.” She loved life.
Rose is survived by her children, Francis (Karen) Calandra of Webster, Maria Zapf of Syracuse, Ermine Cunningham of Baldwinsville, and Joseph, Jr (Lisa) Calandra of Sarasota; three sisters, Genevieve Lando of Camillus, Mary Addabbo of California, and Lucille Viola of Liverpool; a brother, Nicholas Sardella of Rochester; 11 grandchildren, 10 great grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by her husband of 68 years, Joseph Calandra, and two brothers: Frank Cronotti and Richard Sardella.
Rose’s family would especially like to thank the many loving caregivers who made her last years comfortable.
Friends may call on Sunday from 1 - 3 pm at Krueger Funeral Home, 2619 Brewerton Rd., Mattydale.
