Leona A. (Haskins) Campbell, 67, lifelong resident of Syracuse, passed away Wednesday, July 24, 2019 at her daughter’s home. Lee owned and operated Lee’s 5 Niner Diner in Syracuse in the 1970’s and early 80’s. Since then, she worked at various restaurants in the Syracuse area. Lee enjoyed bowling and belonged to various leagues at AMF Strike ‘N Spare Lanes in Mattydale. She loved traveling, dining out and visiting casinos all over the U.S.
She was predeceased by her parents, Roy and Louise (Crizer) Haskins and by a niece, Carolyne Haskins.
Leona is survived by her domestic partner, Fred Melnik with whom she resided for many years; two children: Christopher Campbell, Sr. of Syracuse and Patti (Don) Mott of North Syracuse and their father, Claude Campbell of Syracuse; a sister, Mary Stempien of FL; her brother, Roy Haskins, Jr. of Baldwinsville; six grandchildren: Joey, Sean, Dustin, Christopher, Chelsie, and Tabatha; many great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. Lee felt blessed for the extraordinary care given to her by her loving family especially by Patti, Don, Chelsie, Noah and Tabby.
Friends may call on Friday from 4 - 7 pm at Krueger Funeral Home, 2619 Brewerton Rd., Mattydale, followed by a Celebration of Life at 7 pm. Burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery, Fabius, at a later date.
