Anthony “Tony” Carr, 89, of Gordon Ave in Mattydale, passed away Saturday, December 4th at home. Born in Ferrazzano, Italy, Tony emigrated to Syracuse in 1958 before settling in Mattydale in 1969. He and his wife also maintained a residence in Seminole, Florida for over 20 years where they enjoyed escaping the Syracuse winters.
Tony retired in 1994 after 31 years as the Director of Support Services at Loretto Geriatric Center in Syracuse. Before emigrating to the U.S., he apprenticed and worked as a cabinet maker in Cremona, Italy and ran a furniture making business with his brother. Tony loved the Indy 500, auto racing, and auto mechanics. He was especially fond of time spent with his children and grandchildren. Tony was a communicant of St. Margaret’s Church in Mattydale.
He was predeceased by his wife of 63 years, Michelina "Mickey" Carr, two sisters, Giuseppina Cerio and Maria Lembo, a brother, Michele Carroccia, his mother-in-law, Maria Giovanna Gianfelice, sister-in-law, Rosina Gianfelice, and brother-in-law, Antonio Gianfelice.
Tony is survived by his three sons: Enzo (Heidi) Carr of Onondaga Hill, Robert Carr of Rochester, and Carmen (Tammi) Carr of Chittenango, and he was grandfather to Vincenzo, Carmela, Angelo, Christian, and Luca.
In lieu of flowers, contributions in Tony’s memory may be made to the American Heart Association, 2 Clinton Square, Suite 305, Syracuse, NY 13202.
Services were private and at the convenience of the family. Burial was in Assumption Cemetery.
