Mary M. Carter, 76, formerly of Mattydale, died Wednesday at Van Duyn Home and Hospital with her family by her side. Mary was a native of Syracuse and had resided in Mattydale since 1965. She was the daughter of the late Whitmon and Mary Chilson.
Mary retired in 1988 after 5 years as a waitress at Friendly's Restaurant and prior to that, she had worked at Strike N Spare Lanes and Dee's Diner all in Mattydale. Mary was a long time member of the Ladies Auxiliaries of the American Legion Post 1832 and the VFW Post 3146, both in Mattydale. She was a communicant of St. Margaret's Church.
Mary was predeceased by her husband of 26 years, Robert L. Carter, in 1985.
Surviving are her two daughters: Robin Spara of Syracuse, and Kelly Jim Wright of Bridgeport; three sons: Michael Patty Chilson of Hastings, Robert Melissa Carter and Scott Sandra Lynn Carter, all of Mattydale; a brother-in-law: Jack Jane Carter of Mattydale; her eleven grandchildren; and seventeen great grandchildren.
Friends may call Friday from 12-2pm at Krueger Funeral Home, 2619 Brewerton Road, Mattydale. Funeral Service will begin at 2pm followed by burial in North Syracuse Cemetery.
