Richard P. Casey passed away peacefully on Thursday at Upstate University Hospital. Born January 9, 1923, he was the son of the late Daniel and Ermine Strong Casey of Laurens, NY and the brother of Robert Ann, Marian Gid Harris and Lucile Sheldon Brown.
He was predeceased by his wife of 25 years, the former Cecilia McCarthy and predeceased by Martha Barrett Macleod, his wife of 11 years.
Richard graduated high school in Laurens where he was active in sports; served in the USMC from 1940-1946, World War II Pacific Theater, and graduated from Syracuse University in 1951. He owned and operated North Plaza Camera in North Syracuse, South Plaza Camera in Rochester and Casey's Cameras of Las Vegas. Richard loved photography and all related, cherished friendships with salesmen and the many loyal customers over the years. He was a modest man and a very giving man.
Surviving are his children: Kevin T. Casey of Las Vegas, Kim C. Casey of East Syracuse and Karen Greg White of Liverpool; one granddaughter: Jennifer White of Charlotte, NC; nephews: Richard and Robert, and his niece, Jeanne.
There will be no calling hours; burial will be private. Contributions may be made in Richard's memory to the Alzheimer's Association of CNY, 441 West Kirkpatrick Street, Syracuse NY 13204. The family would like to express their sincerest gratitude to the staff at Greenpoint, Keepsake Village for the exceptional care given to Richard during his stay and would also like to extend a heartfelt thanks to the staff at Upstate ICU 6E for making his final days comfortable.
