Doug Chaffee, husband, father, grandfather, brother and friend passed away peacefully surrounded by his family Monday, June 15, 2015. Doug, the son of the late Frederik A. and Myrtle (Chambers) Chaffee, was a native of Chateaugay, NY, where he graduated from the Chateaugay High School.
Doug retired in 1989, at the age of 59, having worked 39 years as foreman of the shipping department for the General Electric Company. Doug was a very generous person who could always be counted on and it could be said that he was busier after his retirement having many interests and taking on numerous projects. He was an avid wood worker and enjoyed refinishing furniture. Doug took pleasure in and was thankful for the many summers he was able to coach in the Mattydale Little League. Doug was a longtime parishioner of St. Margaret’s Church where he volunteered for many years at their Bingo.
Doug was predeceased by his brother, Jack and sister, Jane.
Doug is survived by his wife of 56 years, the former May Dominic; their four children: Michael Chaffee of Mattydale, Kathy (John) McKie of Cicero, Matthew (Nancy) Chaffee of Tully, and Mark (Amy) Chaffee of Ballston Lake, NY; seven grandchildren: Nessa, Mason, Grace, Kate, Ethan, Aaron and Ashlyn; a sister, Marion Moon of Camillus; a brother, Robert of FL; and several nieces and nephews.
In lieu of flowers, contributions in Doug’s memory may be made to St. Margaret’s Church, 203 Roxboro Rd., Mattydale, NY 13211 or to the Dominican Monastery, 802 Court St., Syracuse, NY 13208.
Friends may call on Saturday from 9 – 10 am at St. Margaret’s Church. A Mass of Christian Burial will begin at 10:00 am with burial following at the North Syracuse Cemetery.
