Christina Marie Smart

Christina Marie Smart, 56, of Clay, passed away July 31^st after a long courageous battle with cancer. Chrissy was able to stay in the home she loved with the full-time care from her Aunt Sandy, her mom, and her wonderful neighbors.

Chrissy grew up in Mattydale and graduated from Cicero-North Syracuse High school in 1984. She began her career working at Elmcrest Children’s Center. She then went on to Oswego State University of NY, being on the President’s list and graduating in 1990, from there she earned her master’s degree at LeMoyne College. Chrissy worked 29 years as a teacher in the North Syracuse School District.

Chrissy was a strong determined woman who cared deeply for her family and friends. She was the rock of her family, always caring for everyone. She loved her family, friends, and pets beyond measure, her sense of humor was amazing right to the very last few days.

Chrissy leaves behind her parents, Robert and Linda Smart; her brothers, Donald and Daniel Smart; and her nephew, Brandon (Maia Falise) Smart; her aunt Sandra who was always her second mother and many other aunts, uncles, and cousins; her pet, Bandit, who enriched her life every day; her neighbors, the McIlroys, who were family to her; her friend, Mary Alice; and many other friends.

The family would like to thank Hematology/Oncology for the wonderful care, laughter, and support given to Chrissy. Also, her family physician of 30 years, Dr. Fiacco whom she thought the world of, her friend Mary Alice who fully supported her on every part of her journey, her dear neighbors that helped so much and her Aunt Sandy who put her life on hold to care for Chrissy.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Helping Hounds Dog Rescue, 7268 Caswell Ave, North Syracuse, NY 13212 or to the CNY SPCA, 5878 East Molloy Road, Mattydale, NY 13211 either would make Chrissy very happy.
