David E. Rankin Sr., 89, of Liverpool, passed away Sunday, March 30th with his family surrounding him. Born in the Valley area to the late David W. and Constance Rankin, David was a 1953 graduate of Smith Technical High School. He attended Syracuse University to study Architecture.
David was a US Air Force veteran serving 10 years as a Military Police Officer with the 174th Fighter Wing Air National Guard during the Berlin Crisis. He was employed as a draftsman at Canan & Roach and then worked as a salesman for several companies in the Syracuse area before retiring in 2006 as the Plant Manager after 30 years at Burnett Process in East Syracuse. David enjoyed shooting trap and was a member of the Jamesville Sportsman’s Club. He took great pride in reloading his own ammunition. In his youth, David was a golfer and a bowler but above all else, he always valued his time with his family and friends. He was a former communicant of St. Jospeh the Worker Church in Liverpool.
David was predeceased by a daughter, Donna Lilly, in 2019.
He is survived by his wife of 69 years, the former Joan A. (Sears); their two children, David (Joanne) Rankin of Liverpool and Daniel (Ann) Rankin of Las Vegas, NV; his five grandchildren: Nicole, Katie (Michael), Ashley, Bianca, and Kristin; and a great grandson, Luca.

Friends may call on Thursday, April 3, from 2:00 – 4:00 pm at Krueger Funeral Home, 2619 Brewerton Rd., Mattydale. A Service of Remembrance will follow at 4:00 pm.
