Harry Davis

September 25, 1941 — April 8, 2006

Harry Davis, 64, of North Syracuse, passed away Saturday, April 8, at St. Joseph's Hospital Health Center, with his wife and his daughters at his side. Harry was born September 25, 1941, in Lowville, NY, and grew up in the North Country. A Marine Corps veteran, he served two tours of duty in the Far East as an amphibious vehicle crew chief. He was a member of VFW Manlius Post and American Legion Eastwood Post. Harry retired in 2002 after 38 years as a bartender at Hotel Syracuse. He enjoyed summers on the lake with his grandchildren at Brennan Beach and playing golf. He also enjoyed his annual hunting trips to Hammondsport with family and friends. Harry was preceded in death by his parents, Robert and Loretta Roy Davis, and most recently by his sister, Bonnie Wood, in April of 2005. Surviving are his wife of 39 years, Charlene Penny; three daughters and sons-in-law, Dawn Robert Frasier of Central Square, Karen Tom Nolte of Albany and Robin Ken Fraser of Kirkville; one son and daughter-in-law, Roy Amanda Cannon of Tampa, FL; 15 grandchildren; a sister, Joan Morris Davis of Hermon, NY; and several nieces, nephews, cousins and aunts. Services will be 9:30 a.m. Tuesday at Krueger Funeral Home and 10 a.m. at St. Margaret's Church. Calling hours are 4 to 7 p.m. Monday at the funeral home, 2619 Brewerton Rd., Mattydale. Burial will be in Woodlawn Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, contributions to Cure Autism Now would be appreciated in recognition of his granddaughter, Chloe. Don't think of him as leaving, just going on ahead to check things out for the rest of us.
