James W. Deegan, 67 of Henry Clay Blvd, Clay, died Friday at his home after a brief illness. James was a native of Hornell, NY and resided in Clay for the past 40 years. He was the son of the late Edward Deegan and Clara Brinkman.
Jim was an alumnus of St. Bonaventure University, Class of 1961 and received his Masters Degree in Education from Syracuse University. He retired in 1999 after teaching Math for the Syracuse City School District at Nottingham High School and Onondaga Community College. Since then he has taught in the Math Department at Syracuse University. James was a member of the Syracuse Teachers Association, NYSUT and Pax Christi. He was a communicant of St. Lucy?s Church in Syracuse where he served as an Usher and Eucharistic Minister. Jim also enjoyed weaving, gardening and spending time with his grandchildren.
James is survived by his wife of 42 years, Therese Mento, his three daughters; Mary Pat Joseph Horan, of Baldwinsville, Jennifer Gene Sullivan, of Fulton, and Annemarie Deegan Marnie Annese, of Syracuse, his son; Daniel Pamela Deegan, of Liverpool, his three sisters; Mary Ann Jones, of Chapel Hill, NC, Sr. Margaret Deegan, of Rochester, NY, and Catherine Sheridan of Pawling, NY, a brother; Thomas Deegan, of Inwood, WV, and his seven grandchildren; Janel and Patrick Sullivan, Jacob, Nicholas, and Christopher Deegan, Zachary Roseberry and Clare Horan.
Friends may call Monday from 4-8pm at Krueger Funeral Home, 2619 Brewerton Rd. Mattydale. Services are 9:15 am Tuesday at the funeral home followed by mass at 10 am at St. Lucy?s Church in Syracuse. Burial will be in Pine Plains Cemetery, Clay.
