Wilhelmina DeGarmo

Wilhelmina "Wilma" A. DeGarmo, 95, formerly of 114 Belle Terrace in North Syracuse, died Monday at Iroquois Nursing Home. Wilma grew up in the Lakeland area and resided in North Syracuse for 58 years. She was the daughter of the late Frank M. and Anna Sladick.
In her younger years, Wilma worked for Val Motors and L.C. Smith. During World War II, she was a foreman in the Heavy Military Division of General Electric until 1951. She volunteered on the blood mobile for the American Red Cross for 25 years and was a member of the Salina Town Hall Seniors. Wilma was a long time communicant of St. Margaret's Church and took pride and enjoyment in tending to her flower garden.
She was predeceased by her husband, Carl DeGarmo, in 2002.
Wilma leaves behind her two daughters: Donna Willis of Pompey, and Elizabeth Har Dayal of Liverpool; a sister: Rose Sladick of Lakeland; her two grandchildren: Kathryn Goering of Japan and Jai Dayal of Rochester; three step grandchildren; five step great grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
Friends may call Wednesday from 3-6pm at Krueger Funeral Home2619 Brewerton Rd., Mattydale. A prayer service will begin at the funeral home on Thursday, 9:30 am followed by a 10 am Mass of Christian Burial at St. Margaret's Church. Burial will be in North Syracuse Cemetery. Contributions in Wilma's memory may be made to Food Bank of CNY, 6970 Schuyler Road, East Syracuse NY 13057.
