Nanine "Nan" Newman, 90, longtime resident of Mattydale, passed away Monday, May 2, 2016. Nan grew up in the Valley area of Syracuse where she graduated from St. Lucy's Academy. She lived on West Molloy Road in Mattydale for over 50 years and most recently resided in Central Square for the past 5 years with her daughter.
Nan worked as a teller in the 1970's for Marine Midland Bank mostly at their Penn Can Mall Branch. After that, she worked as a counselor for Hope for the Bereaved for nearly 25 years. Nan was a longtime communicant of St. Margaret's Church and founded their Bereavement Committee where she assisted countless families plan their loved ones funeral services and helped them with the grieving process. She was also a member of their Altar Rosary Society and served as a Lector and Eucharistic Minister.
Nan was predeceased by her husband of 38 years, Francis in 1985, and by her two sons, Thomas J. in 1980 and Timothy J. Newman in 2014.
Nan is survived by five children: Mark (Nancy) of North Syracuse, Brian (Sheri) of Cleveland, Christine (Philip) Bova of Baldwinsville, Kevin of Cleveland, and Mary (Michael) Pandossi of Central Square with whom she resided; her brother: Donald Dixon of Central Square;
14 grandchildren; 22 great grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

Friends may call on Thursday from 4-7 pm at Krueger Funeral Home, 2619 Brewerton Rd., Mattydale. A Prayer Service will begin on Friday, 9:15 am at the funeral home followed by a 10:00 am Mass of Christian Burial at St. Margaret's Church. Burial will be in Onondaga Valley Cemetery, Syracuse.
