Donald W. Pendergast, 82, of Liverpool, passed away Tuesday, February 21, at Crouse Hospital in Syracuse. Don was born to the late Charles and Catherine (Deso) and raised in Central Square where he was a 1958 graduate of Paul V. Moore High School.
Don was a veteran serving as a cook for the US Army. He retired in 2000 after more than 40 years in the shipping department of Carrier Corporation. He was an avid bowler belonging to several leagues in the Syracuse area and enjoyed golfing as well. Don was a huge NY Yankees fan who enjoyed most sporting events both in person and televised. He talked about sports to anyone who would listen. Don enjoyed taking walks and loved all kinds of animals. His lifelong friendships were the most valuable asset in life. He was fortunate later in life, to become reacquainted with his high school sweetheart Marcia George who became his life partner for 18 years before her passing in 2017. He gave her loving care during her battle with Alzheimer’s.
He is survived by two daughters, Brenda Pendergast of Liverpool and Heather (Jason) LaShomb of Brewerton and their mother, Elaine Pendergast; a sister, Nancy Courbat of Syracuse; his seven grandchildren: James, Nathan, Russell, Timothy Hyslop and their father, Edward Hyslop, his oldest grandchild, Kaylee Bartlett, as well as Autumn and Aiden LaShomb; several nieces and nephews; and his beloved cats, Laurie and Katie.
Contributions in Don’s memory may be made to an animal shelter of your choice.
