Paul Dufault, 75, of Garden City Drive in Mattydale, died peacefully Tuesday, May 23rd, at home. Born December 30, 1941 to the late Paul and Annette Dufault, Paul was raised in Montreal, Quebec.
Paul was a US Army Veteran serving in the 3rd Infantry during the Vietnam War. Before moving to the Syracuse area in 1969, Paul worked for the Roxboro Quebec Police and was a member of the Montreal Airport Fire Dept. After migrating here, he worked at RJ Reynolds for a number of years and the Syracuse Airport Fire Dept. ARFF for almost 30 years. Paul was a current member of the Mattydale Fire Dept and also served as its past President, treasurer and Fire Police Captain in his 42 year affiliation. At any event, Paul was the first to arrive and setup a table to sell raffle and 50/50 tickets. He was past President of the Onondaga County Firemen's Association, past Treasurer of the Onondaga County Fire Northern Line Officers Association and a member of SPAAMFAA - Society for the Preservation and Appreciation of Motor Fire Apparatus in America. Paul was a member of the VFW Post #3146 and the American Legion Post #1832, both in Mattydale and a member of the Vietnam Veterans Association Chapter #103.
Paul was predeceased by his wife of 33 years, the former Anna Hymson and by an infant sister, Francine.
Surviving are his son and his wife, Paul "PJ" and Shelly Dufault; 4 grandchildren: Jennifer and Paul "JP" Dufault, Amber and Brandon Sandford; 7 great grandchildren: Leo, Calvyn, Jaxson, Preston, Brayden, Briana, and Terry Jr.; and his companion, Shirley Mott.
Contributions in Paul’s memory may be made to the Mattydale Volunteer Fire Dept or to Hospice of CNY.
Friends may call on Thursday from 4 - 8 pm at Krueger Funeral Home, 2619 Brewerton Rd., Mattydale. Prayer services will begin at the funeral home on Friday, 9:15 am followed by a 10:00 am Mass of Christian Burial in St. Margaret's Church. Burial will be in North Syracuse Cemetery.
