Gerald ?Jerry? R. Dumas, 63, of Matty Ave., Mattydale, beloved father, brother, son, grandfather, and great-grandfather passed away Monday at Crouse hospital. Gerald was a native of Syracuse and was the son of Cecile Dumas and the late Romeo Dumas and resided in Mattydale for the past 20 years. Jerry worked at the Fisher Guide Division of the General Motors Corporation for 28 years and then was employed as a custodian in the North Syracuse Central School District for the past 9 years. Gerald was a Vietnam War Veteran of the Air Force and was a member of the VFW Post #3146 of Mattydale, the American Legion Post #1832 of Mattydale and was an avid Syracuse Orangemen & Buffalo Bills fan.. He also enjoyed camping, fishing, playing horseshoes and was an avid guitar player.
Surviving are two daughters, Jacquelynn Scrimale of Syracuse and Lynette John Moyer Morey of Marcellus, a son, Jerry Dumas of Mattydale, his mother, Cecile Dumas of Syracuse, a sister, Annette Ponto of Syracuse, five grandchildren Edward and Dana Scrimale, Jamie and John Morey, Amanda Dumas and one great-grandson Edward Scrimale.
Funeral Services will be 1 pm Thursday at the Krueger Funeral Home. Burial will be in Assumption Cemetery. Friends may call from 4 to 7 pm Wednesday at the funeral home, 2619 Brewerton Rd. Mattydale. The family wishes extend their appreciation to the staff of the 4 south nursing unit at Crouse Hospital and the staff of Dr. Gullo?s office for their extraordinary care given to Jerry throughout his illness.
