Elena M. Poli

Elena M. Poli, 51, of Liverpool, passed away Thursday, March 20, 2025. Elena was a woman of incredible strength and resilience. She faced one of life’s greatest challenges when she was diagnosed with leukemia, a battle she fought courageously and overcame, achieving remission. Her determination and spirit were an inspiration to all who knew her. Sadly, Elena later suffered a traumatic brain injury due to a hemorrhagic stroke — a battle that even her remarkable strength could not overcome. She passed away peacefully, leaving behind a legacy of love, perseverance, and grace.

Elena was raised in North Syracuse where she was a 1991 graduate of C.N.S. High School. She earned her bachelor’s degree in nursing from St. Joe’s School of Nursing. Elena worked as a Registered Nurse for St. Joe’s for many years and lately had been working as a case manager.

Elena loved to stay active and was referred to as Superwoman by her family. She was unselfish and loved to spend time with her family, especially her grandchildren. She also enjoyed travelling.

Elena was predeceased by her mother, Rocchina Poli in 1980. She is survived by her spouse of over 20 years, Fred Alonzo; four sons: Cameron (Kayla) Jones of Syracuse, Jasmond Jones of Long Beach, CA, Preston Alonzo and Ashton Alonzo, both of Liverpool; her father, Daniel Poli of Syracuse; three sisters: Ann Marie, Lena, and Diana; her three grandchildren: Jaiden, Laila-Lynn, and Charlotte Jones; and the other love of her life, her furry companion, Bentley the dog.

Friends may call on Monday, March 31, from 3:00 – 6:00 pm at Krueger Funeral Home, 2619 Brewerton Rd., Mattydale, with a Funeral Service following at 6:00 pm.
