Evelyn A. Ashley

Born in Oneida, NY, the daughter of the late Eibe and Bertha (Cordes) Johanns, Evelyn A. (Johanns) Ashley, 92, of Liverpool, passed away Wednesday, January 8th, at the Cottages at Garden Grove in Cicero. Evelyn graduated from Syracuse University in 1958 with her bachelor’s degree in education.

 She began teaching in Chittenango and then in North Syracuse for 31 years before retiring in 1994. Evelyn was a member of the NYSUT United Teachers, the Syracuse Alumni Association, the North Syracuse Education Association, and the Civic Social Club of Greater Syracuse. Her hobbies included gardening and playing bridge. She was a member of Luther Memorial Lutheran Church in North Syracuse.

 Evelyn is survived by her husband of 65 years, Richard Ashley; her children: Brian (Suzanne) of Denver, CO, Craig (Tonia) of CA, and Mona (Michael) Fagan of North Syracuse; her brother, Richard Johanns of TX; two grandsons, Alexander and Benjamin Ashley; and by several nieces, nephews and cousins.

Friends may call on Saturday, January 18, from 11:00 – 11:30 am at Krueger Funeral Home, 2619 Brewerton Rd., Mattydale. A Prayer Service will begin at 11:30 am followed by a 12:00 pm Funeral Service at Luther Memorial Church. Burial will be in North Syracuse Cemetery.
