Leonard J. Filipkowski, Sr., 83, formerly of Dolores Terrace South in North Syracuse, died Tuesday at the Crossings in Minoa. Leonard was a native of Syracuse and had resided in North Syracuse since 1973. He was the son of the late Stanley and Anna Filipkowski.
Leonard graduated from Vocational School in 1943. He retired in 1986 after 20 years as a dispatcher and inspector with the Department of Transportation and 5 years for the Department of Public Works, both in the City of Syracuse. Leonard was a communicant at St. Margaret's Church in Mattydale, a member of their Socialites Group, and volunteered as an usher.
He was predeceased by his first wife, Mary Jean of 29 years in 1976, his second wife of 27 years, Beverly in 2003 and his step-daughter, Debbie Marx, in 1993.
Surviving are his children: Leonard J. Kathleen Filipkowski, Jr. of North Syracuse, Kathleen David Spak of Liverpool, and step-son, Richard Salvetti of Manlius; his son-in-law, John Marx of East Syracuse, and his 9 grandchildren Jeffery, Kelly, Kevin, Julia, Alise, Kylynn, Christopher, Patrick and Stephen. .
Friends may call from 4-7pm, Friday at Krueger Funeral Home, 2619 Brewerton Road, Mattydale. Services are Saturday at 9:00am at the funeral home followed by a 9:30am Mass of Christian Burial at St. Margaret's Church. Burial will be in St. Mary's Cemetery, Dewitt.
