Gail R. Mauro, 65, a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, and friend, passed away peacefully on April 2, 2025, in Clay. Gail was raised in North Syracuse and was a graduate of North Syracuse High School in 1977, and she received associate’s degrees in both Business and Accounting from Onondaga Community College. For over 30 years, she was a bookkeeper for Costello Cooney & Fearon PLLC in Syracuse. Her earlier years were spent as a teller and branch manager for several Syracuse area banks.
Beyond her professional responsibilities, Gail reveled in life’s simple pleasures. She cherished her annual trips to St. Martin, where she found solace and joy in the beauty of travel. Gail adored spending time on the water aboard the boat aptly named "Pennies from Heaven" with her husband, Joe, and their family at A & P Marina in Cicero. She would summer on the water in Cicero and winter in Del Ray Beach, Florida. Gail was known for her ability to entertain family and friends. Remarkably, she even turned shopping into a delightful second career and believed in the power of "retail therapy". Gail leaves a profound void in the hearts of all who knew her.
She was predeceased by her parents, Leroy and Phyllis Natanson, and her brother, Ray Natanson, who passed away in 2000.
Gail is survived by her devoted husband of 25 years, Joseph G. Mauro, Jr. Together, they cultivated a warm and loving family of six children: Keri (Bryan) Cunningham of Orlando, FL, Andrew (Amanda) Gordon of Charlotte, NC, Meghan (Brad) Beagle of North Syracuse, Pamela (Josh) Gillespy of Mexico, Joe (Kristin Slayton) Mauro III of Clay, and Crystal (Donte) Graham of Cicero. She was a doting grandmother to numerous grandchildren: Jakob (Annie) Cunningham, Jordan (Cailin) Cunningham, Hallie Cunningham, Sophie Cunningham, Riley Beagle, Malorie Petrie, Viara Mauro, Joshua Gillespy, Sampson Gillespy, Scherokee Graham, Donte Graham Jr., Braylon Taylor, Delilah Thomas, and Saniyya Graham; as well as three great-grandchildren: Aurora, Michael, and Ryan, and looked forward to welcoming a baby boy who is expected within the next week; and many nieces and nephews.
Contributions in Gail's memory may be made to the American Cancer Society, PO Box 6704, Hagerstown, MD 21741.
