Barbara A. Galvin, 80, of Whitmore Road in North Syracuse died Wednesday at Francis House. Barbara grew up in Mattydale, lived in Pitcher Hill since 1976 and was a 1950 graduate of North Syracuse High.
Barbara retired in 2005 after 9 years as a medical transcriber for Hospice of CNY. Prior to that, she worked for many years at the Syracuse City School District in a clerical capacity. Barbara was a member of Mattydale Hinsdale Senior Citizens, volunteered for North Area Meals on Wheels and was a communicant of St. Margaret’s Church.
She was predeceased by her husband of 28 years, John Galvin in 1994, and by her two sisters, Florence Bockheim and Genevieve Vecchio.
Surviving are her three step-children: JoAnn (Fred) Smith of Penn Yan, NY, Gary (Barbara) Galvin of Livonia, NY, and Jeffrey (Bonnie) Galvin of Grand Island, NY; five grandchildren: Jennifer, Karen, Jesse, Michael, and Wade; two great grandchildren: Rachel and Hannah; a brother: Donald Bockheim of Syracuse; her sister: Bernadette Heimerman of Seattle, WA; and several nieces and nephews.

Friends may call Monday from 7 - 9 pm at Krueger Funeral Home, 2619 Brewerton Road, Mattydale. Prayer will begin on Tuesday at 9:30 am at the funeral home followed by a 10 am Mass of Christian Burial in St. Margaret's Church. Burial will be in Assumption Cemetery, Syracuse.
