William "Bill" R. Gelling Sr., 74, of Syracuse, passed away peacefully on Sunday June 29th, 2008 at Community General Hospital, Onondaga Hill with his family by his side. He was born the son of Paul R. Gelling and Elizabeth A. Wilson on January 2, 1934 in Syracuse.
Bill served in the Armed Forces in the US Navy. After being honorably discharged, he was employed by Crouse Hinds/Cooper Industries in Syracuse for more than 30 years until his retirement in 1991. He was a member of the Graphic Four Bowling League, Salina Sizzlers Bowling, C-H Retirement Club, and the O.K.A. - Onondaga Kennel Association for many years.
Bill married Joan Eileen Gillmore on November 8, 1952 and lost her to cancer in 1992. He later met his loving companion, Norma Graff. Bill and Norma shared many passions including bowling, pitch league, trips to camp and socializing with friends. He enjoyed spending time with his family and close friends as well as the love and company of his companion Norma. He will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him.
He was predeceased in death by his parents: Paul and Elizabeth Gelling, his brother: Paul Gelling, an infant son, and his beloved daughter: Elizabeth Betty Stuber.
Bill is survived by his three sons and their wives: William Bill Jr. and Heather Gelling, James Jim and Michelle Gelling, and Dana and Wendy Gelling; his son-in-law: Chris Stuber; his companion Norma Graff and her son Rick. He also leaves many grandchildren, great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews that were all very special to him. He loved them all with his whole heart. He also leaves behind many special friends.
The family wishes to extend a sincere thank you to Bill's doctors and the staff at Community General Hospital ICU for the wonderful care that was given.
Friends are invited to call from 4-7pm, Tuesday at Krueger Funeral Home, 2619 Brewerton Road, Mattydale. Funeral services will be held at 7pm following calling hours. Interment will be at Jamesville Cemetery at the convenience of the family.
