George Georgiade, 79, of Mattydale, passed away Tuesday, January 27, 2015 at his home. Born in New York City, George grew up in Manhattan and resided in the Syracuse area most of his life. He was the son of the late Michael and Bertha Georgiade.
George attended the FBI Academy for hostage negotiation in Quantico, VA. He retired in 1982 after a 22 year career as a Lieutenant for the Syracuse Police Department. Since then, George owned and operated Evzone Security Consultants and worked as a private investigator. In 1976 George was the detective responsible for returning Ernie Davis's Heisman Trophy that was stolen. He received a Herald Medal for bravery by the Syracuse Police Dept. George was a member of the Syracuse Police Benevolent Association and a member of the YMCA in Fayetteville. He attended Crossroads Community Church in Chittenango.
George is survived by his three sons: Ricardo (Carolyn) Georgiade of Clay and his mother, Ann Georgiade of Minoa, George (Eleni) Georgiade of Crete, Greece and Nicholas Georgiade of Baldwinsville and their mother, Joanne "Dolly" Georgiade of Baldwinsville; his step-daughter, Courtney Duncan and her mother Julie Georgiade of Kirkville; two sisters: Fotine "Flo" Decesare of Minoa, and Mary Georgiade of New York City; a brother: Nicholas Georgiade of Las Vegas, NV; his five grandchildren: Alexis, Alyssa, Amanda, Konstandinos "Dino", and Melina; a nephew Michael DeFelix and a niece Linda DeFelix-Spear.
Friends may call on Saturday from 2-4 pm at Krueger Funeral Home Inc., 2619 Brewerton Rd., Mattydale, with a funeral service following at 4 pm.
