George E. Lightenfield, Sr.

Mattydale

George E. Lightenfield Sr., 83, resident of Mattydale for most of his life, passed away Monday, June 24, 2024, at Central Park Rehabilitation. George worked his entire career as a plumber in the Syracuse area. He started learning at the age of 15 and worked for many companies including Dave Baron Plumbing and Morgan Badgley Company before retiring in 2006. George loved exchanging talents with his many friends with different skillsets.

 As a classic car enthusiast, George belonged to several car clubs including Central New York Street Rods Car Club and always attended the Syracuse Nationals Car Show. He enjoyed traveling to many places but especially to Lake George, Hawaii, and Gananoque.

George was predeceased by his parents, Georgianna and Francis Lightenfield Sr., three children: Patricia, Ginny, and Robert, and by two siblings, Clara, and Francis Jr. 

Surviving are his wife of 43 years, the former Carol (Mark); three children: George (Jennifer) Lightenfield Jr. of Nedrow, Tommy (Karen) Kunz of Baldwinsville, and Katherine Ireland of Cicero; two siblings, Penelope (Richard) Wimmer of Canastota and Terry Lightenfield of Syracuse; 8 grandchildren; 3 great grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. 

Contributions in George's memory may be made to St. Jude's Children's Hospital, P.O. Box 1000, Dept #142, Memphis, TN 38101-9908 or to the Stroke Recovery Foundation, 5621 Strand Blvd, Suite 211E, Naples FL 34110.

Friends may call on Monday, July 8th, from 4:00 -7:00 pm at Krueger Funeral Home, 2619 Brewerton Rd., Mattydale. Funeral Services will begin on Tuesday, July 9th, 10:00 am at the funeral home with burial in Pine Plains Cemetery, Clay, following.
