Lois C. Gilbert
August 13, 1937 — April 15, 2020
Lois C. Gilbert, 82, of Mattydale, passed away Wednesday, April 15th at St. Joseph’s Hospital. Born in Utica, Lois grew up in the Sandy Creek area where she graduated from Sandy Creek High in 1955. She resided in Mattydale since 1961 and was the daughter of the late Dana and Ella (Skeels) Paye.
Lois worked at the Onondaga County Sheriff's Department as a clerk for 14 years and then as a Nurse's Aide at Birchwood Health Center in Liverpool. She volunteered at The Learning Place in Syracuse and North Area Meals on Wheels. Lois enjoyed crocheting and was a voracious reader. She was a member of the Malden Road United Church of Christ.
Lois was predeceased by three siblings: Ruth, Kathryn, and Dana and by the father of her children, Don Gilbert, and her grandson, Jason.
She is survived by her four children: Michael (Mary Ellen) Gilbert of Liverpool, Robin Wright of Florida, Robert Gilbert of Mattydale, and Gary (Theresa) Gilbert of Clay; six grandchildren: Jessica, Jon, Timothy, Jeffrey, Ryan, and Lauren; and by several great grandchildren.
In lieu of flowers, a donation to the Newland Center (https://www.thenewlandcenter.org/) would be appreciated.
Services will be held privately at the family’s convenience. Burial will be in Woodlawn Cemetery, Sandy Creek. A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date.
