Joseph F. Greco, Sr., 90, of Breman Ave in Mattydale, died Thursday at St. Joseph's Hospital Health Center. Joe was a native of Gloversville, NY and had resided in Mattydale since 1949. He was the son of the late Michael and Carmella Greco.
Joe was a US Naval Veteran of World War II; he served aboard the USS Chester in Pacific Theatre. He retired in 1981 after working 41 years as an inspector for Crucible Steel in Solvay. Joe was a former member of the Loyal Order of the Moose in Solvay. He was an avid golfer and enjoyed fishing. Joe was also a communicant of St. Margaret's Church.
He is survived by his wife of 68 years, the former JaneDaniszewski;a daughter: Phyllis Neil Bender of North Syracuse; his three sons: Joseph Patricia Greco of Solvay, Mark Theresa Greco of Kansas City, MO, and Jeffrey Judi Greco of Liverpool; a sister: Filomena Mula of Liverpool; three brothers: Vincent "Jimmy" Greco of Naples, FL, Anthony Greco of Solvay, and Peter Greco of Syracuse; as well as nine grandchildren and seventeen great grandchildren.
Friends may call on Sunday from 1-4 pm at Krueger Funeral Home, 2619 Brewerton Road, Mattydale. Prayer Service will begin at the funeral home on Monday at 9:30 am followed by a 10:00 am Mass of Christian Burial in St. Margaret's Church. Burial will be in Sacred Heart Cemetery, Geddes. In lieu of flowers, contributions in Joe's memory may be made to St. Margaret's Church, 203 Roxboro Road, Mattydale NY 13211.
