Jacob "Jake" Hafner, Jr. 91, Passed away Saturday, May 22 in the loving arms of his son. For a man of few words, there are not enough words to express how much he touched the hearts of his family. Jake was a lifetime resident of Liverpool where he devoted his life to his passion of farming. On the off season, he spent winters in Bonita Springs, FL where he enjoyed shelling and spending time with his friends. He was the founding partner of Jacob Hafner Jr. & Sons farm, co-founder/Co-owner of Hafner's Red Barn Country Store, and owner/operator of his 12 acre blueberry farm in Lysander. Jake was a life-long vendor of the Central NY Regional Market, a member Onondaga County Vegetable Growers Association, the Luther Memorial Lutheran Church and a former member of the Loyal Order of the Moose Club in Baldwinsville.
He was the son of the late Jacob and Mathilda Hafner and was predeceased by his wife, 44 years the former Gertrude "Trude" Corcoran in 1990 as well as his siblings Walter, Lilian and Florence.
Jake is survived by his long term companion Dorothy Sarna his daughter Linda Robert Trombley, his son and business partner Gary Kathy Hafner, all of Liverpool; his three grandchildren: Wendy and Brian Hafner, Keith Fox; his four great grandchildren: Colby, Courtney & Brianna and Zachary; and several nieces & nephews.
Friends may call on Tuesday from 3:30 to 8 pm at the Krueger Funeral Home, 2619 Brewerton Road, Mattydale. Prayer services will begin at 9:15 am Wednesday at the funeral home followed by a service at 10 am at Luther Memorial Church. Burial will be in North Syracuse Cemetery. Jakes family would like to express their heartfelt gratitude for the care and compassion extended to him during his final months especially to the Doctors, nurses and staff at Dr.'s Augustine and Nardone, Crouse Hospital, the Iroquois Nursing home and Hospice of CNY.
