Eloise P. Goss Hanavan, 85, of Mattydale went home to be with her Lord and beloved husband Owen on Saturday at Crouse Hospital.
Born and raised in Syracuse, she was the daughter the late Leo and Mildred Goss and graduated from St. Anthony of Padua High, and then moved to Mattydale in 1971.
She was a devout communicant of St. Margaret’s Church, a member of its Altar Rosary Society, the Socialite senior group and the funeral choir. Eloise also enjoyed her poker and bunko clubs, many trips with the Socialites, especially to the casino. She was a proud performer on stage many times including the Talent Show in the Catskills as “The Hobo” singing “Wouldn’t it be Loverly”.
She was predeceased by her husband of 61 years Owen F. Hanavan Jr.last January and a sister Mary Jane Heimbach. Surviving are three sons James Hanavan of Mattydale, Owen III Donna Hanavan of Cicero, Patrick Hanavan of Mattydale, a daughter Rosemarie Robert Richards Jr. of North Syracuse, two sisters Mildred Lewis Nagy of Glenfield, Ann Catanzarita of Liverpool, a brother Leo Goss of Syracuse, four sisters-in-law Betty McGraw of North Syracuse, Helen Goss of Westvale, Mary Hanavan of Arlington TX, Betty Simitz of Florida, a granddaughter Melissa Hanavan of Florida, three step grandchildren Robert, Sara and Kimberly, two step great grandchildren Kobe and Leia, several nieces, nephews and great nieces, great nephews and many dear friends.
Services will be held 9:30 am Wednesday at the Krueger Funeral Home followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 am in St. Margaret’s Church. Friends may call from 3 to 7 pm Tuesday at the funeral home 2619 Brewerton Rd. Mattydale. Burial will be in Assumption Cemetery.
