Owen F. Hanavan Jr., 85, of Mattydale died peacefully on Wednesday at Crouse Hospital with loving family at his side.
A native of Queens, NY, he was the son the late Owen F. Sr. and Rose Reave. Owen resided in Syracuse for many years, graduating in 1940 from St Anthony of Padua High School before joining the Army Air Corp during WWII. He was stationed in England with the 384th Bomb Group. He later moved to Mattydale in 1971.
He retired in 1983 after more than 35 years as a Sheet Metal Worker with the James Cashier Co. in Syracuse. He was a communicant of St. Margaret�s Church. He was a member of the Sheet Metal Worker�s Union Local # 58 in Syracuse and a member American Legion Post #1832 and the 3rd Ward Men�s Club both in Mattydale.
He is survived by his beloved wife of 61 years the former Eloise Goss, three sons James Hanavan of Mattydale, Owen III Donna Hanavan of Cicero, Patrick Hanavan of Mattydale, a daughter Rosemarie Robert Richards Jr. of North Syracuse, a sister Elizabeth McGraw of North Syracuse, a granddaughter Melissa Hanavan of Florida, three step grandchildren Robert, Sara and Kimberly, two step great grandchildren Kobe and Leia, several nieces, nephews and great nieces and great nephews.
Services will be held 9:30 am Saturday at the Krueger Funeral Home followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 am in St. Margaret�s Church. Friends may call from 3 to 7 pm Friday at the funeral home 2619 Brewerton Rd. Mattydale. Burial will be in Assumption Cemetery. Contributions may be made to St. Margaret�s Church, 203 Roxboro Rd.
