Frederick E. Harris, 80, of Mattydale, passed away Thursday, February 11, 2016 at St. Joseph's Hospital. Fred was a native of Lowville and resided in Mattydale since 1964. He was the son of the late William and Mary (MacBain) Harris.
Fred was a graduate of Lowville Academy Central High School and Central City Business Institute class of 1954 with an Associate's Degree in accounting. He was an Army veteran serving during the Post War Occupation of Korea. Fred retired in 1992 as the Assistant Vice President of Merchants Bank in Syracuse and was a member of the American Institute of Banking. He was a communicant of St. Margaret's Church where he was a money counter for 50 years and a member of their Holy Name Society.
Fred was predeceased by his four siblings, William Jr., Helen, Francis, and Bernard Harris, and by a nephew, Thomas Harris.
He is survived by his wife of 55 years, the former Sally (O'Leary); their three daughters: Kathleen (Vincent) Agugliaro of Lacona, Sheila Stone of Mattydale and Dolores (Eugene) Weaver of Clay; his five grandchildren: Adair Weaver, Aubrey Agugliaro, Aaron Stone, Keisha Vincett and Faith Weaver; and several nieces and nephews.
In lieu of flowers, contributions in Fred's memory may be made to St. Margaret's Youth Ministry, 203 Roxboro Rd., Mattydale, NY 13211 and/or the American Heart Association, P.O. Box 417005 Boston, MA 02241-7005.
Friends may call on Tuesday from 4-7 pm at Krueger Funeral Home, 2619 Brewerton Rd., Mattydale. A Prayer Service will begin at the funeral home on Wednesday, 10:30 am, followed by an 11:00 am Mass of Christian Burial at St. Margaret's Church. Spring Burial will be in Lowville Rural Cemetery.
