John "Jack" M. Hawk, 81, of Brookfield Road in Mattydale, died Saturday, November 4th at home with his family by his side. Raised in North Syracuse, Jack was the son of the late Milton C. and Janet H. Hawk. He was a 1954 graduate of North Syracuse High School and a US Marine Corps veteran.
Jack worked as a mechanic for 37 years at the family owned Hawk's Mobil in Syracuse until 1995. He then went on to work for Wal-Mart in East Syracuse for 18 years. Jack bowled for many years on various leagues in the area and was a fan of auto racing. He especially enjoyed NASCAR and going to Oswego Speedway.
In addition to his parents, Jack was predeceased by his step-son, C.J. LaBarge, in 1992 and a son-in-law, Mick Lynch, in 2008.
Jack is survived by his wife of 40 years, Cleo Hawk; their five children: Kenneth (Patti) Hawk of Clay, Kathleen Hawk of Syracuse, Carla (Bill) Presutto of Liverpool, Carol Lynch of Clay, and Cheree (John) Perkins of Mattydale; 13 grandchildren: Chelsea, Brandon, Sierra, Kyle, Kayleigh, Jenna, Kevin, William IV, Montana, Chad, Chaydon, Jade, and Caleb; and by four step grandchildren: Johnny, Lucian, Jacob, and Trevor.
Friends may call on Tuesday, November 7, from 4-7 pm at Krueger Funeral Home, 2619 Brewerton Rd., Mattydale.
