Chester F. Hayes, 92, of Breman Ave in Mattydale, died Monday at Community General Hospital. Chester was born in Keene, NY and has resided in the Syracuse area since 1933. He was the son of the late James and Mary Hayes.
Chester retired in 1985 after working 45 years as a shoe maker from Nettleton Shoe Factory in Syracuse. He enjoyed bowling, fishing and was an accomplished self taught artist and photographer.
He is survived by his wife of 64 years, the former Rose Marie DeCicco; his son: James Sheila Hayes of Mattydale; sister-in-law, Josephine Detjen of North Syracuse; his four granddaughters: Kathleen Sergio Silva of Cicero; Mary Howard Benway of Constantia; Kimberly Michael Borregine of Cicero; and Deborah Chris Simon of Casper, WY; his five great granddaughters: Ana, Maria, and Ella Borregine; Ashley Silva; and Melissa Chaney; his two great grandsons: Stephen Borregine and Matthew Kathleen Chaney; and several nieces & nephews.
Friends may call Thursday from 3-5pm followed by services at 5pm at Krueger Funeral Home, 2619 Brewerton Road, Mattydale. Spring burial will be in Lord's Cemetery in Elizabethtown, NY. Contributions may be made to Vera House, 6181 Thompson Road, Suite 100, Syracuse NY 13206.
