Thomas J. Hunter, 63, of Central Square, passed away Monday, January 18, 2016, unexpectedly at St. Joseph's Hospital. A native of North Syracuse, Tom was born to the late Thomas G. and Louise (Mullady) Hunter. He was a 1970 graduate of North Syracuse High and a resident of Mattydale for over 20 years before relocating to Central Square 10 years ago.
Tom earned his Associates Degree in Computer Science from Bryant and Stratton and attended Syracuse University and Cayuga Community College in Fulton. He worked as an instrumentation specialist at New Venture Gear in East Syracuse before retiring in 2011. Since then, Tom was a bus driver for the Phoenix Central School District. He was a life retired member of the Mattydale Volunteer Fire Department where he served as an EMT, a Department Trustee and a CPR/First Aid Instructor. Tom was a former member of the Moyers Corners Fire Dept., NAVAC, and an EMT for Onondaga County Parks. He was a member of the Sons of the American Legion in Central Square, volunteered for the Special Olympics and served on the board of Directors of FOCAL Point Federal Credit Union. Tom was an avid golfer and organized the Mattydale Men's Golf League.
In addition to his parents, Tom was predeceased by his daughter, Amy Hunter, in 2010.
He is survived by his wife of 40 years, the former June(Klochaney); their two daughters: Mandy (Scott Seeley) Hunter of New Albany, OH and Amber Hunter of Bloomington, IN; five grandchildren: Shyanne, Chenoa, Natalie, Margaret, and Emily, with a sixth expected in July; his eight siblings: Linda, Louise (John), Kathy (Tom), Alex (Patty), Patrick (Emily), Lisa, David (Bobbi), and Michael (Serena); as well as several nieces and nephews.

Friends may call on Saturday from 2 - 5 pm at Krueger Funeral Home, 2619 Brewerton Rd., Mattydale, with a Funeral Service following at 5 pm.
