Joan Mary Jagelle, 94, passed away peacefully on February 27, 2021 at Elderwood Nursing Home In Liverpool NY. She was the daughter of the late Leon and Catherine (Corbett) Rohe. She was predeceased by her husband Edward, and her sister Marilyn. She resided in North Syracuse for over 60 years. Joan went to North High School, completed her course work in three years and graduated in 1943. Upon finishing high school, she worked for New York Telephone (now AT&T) as a switchboard operator then a bookkeeper. She loved working there so much, she went back to work after the birth of her first daughter. One child turned into two then five and Mom juggled home and family life well. She was a loving and supportive wife to Ed, and they shared 56 years of marriage. Both were shining examples of hard working, devoted, and loving human beings.
Friends and family were the foundation that gave Joan strength, fun and much laughter. A small circle of her dear friends joined together to form “The Club” where they met at a designated home once a month for food, spirts and lively conversation. They were together 60 years and Joan was the last surviving member.
Joan and Ed loved to dance and listen to the greats of their time. We loved hearing her voice as she sang her favorites in the cellar while doing laundry or seeing her dance in the kitchen while cleaning. Joan was a woman ahead of her time. Petite in stature and sweet by nature, she was a gentle force in our tightly knitted family. She was a devoted parishioner of St Margaret’s Church and a member of their Altar Rosary and Socialites club.
Surviving Joan are her children, MaryPat (David) Franasiak, Karen Jagelle, Teresa (Steven) Duda, Ned Jagelle and Kay Mazar. Her loving grandchildren Alana, Erica , Megan, Brian, Matthew and Joshua. Her sister-in-law Kathy Byrne and several nieces and nephews.
Elderwood Nursing Home became Joan’s second home, and we are deeply grateful to their wonderful, devoted and loving caregivers. In lieu of flowers, contributions in Joan’s memory may be made to St. Margaret’s Church, 203 Roxboro Road Mattydale NY 13211.
There will be no calling hours. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Tuesday, 10:00 am, at St. Margaret’s Church, 203 Roxboro Rd., Mattydale. Burial will be private.
