James J. Muehl

James J. Muehl, 85, of Mattydale, passed away Friday, May 3, 2024.  Born in Worcester, NY, Jim grew up in Bangor, NY and was a 1957 graduate of St. Joe's Academy in Malone. He was one of eleven children born to the late Martin and Catherine (Gadway) Muehl.

Jim was a veteran of the US Army serving out his four years during Vietnam and then went into the Army Reserves for another three years. Jim served with the 174th and 152nd NY Air National Guard in Syracuse for 18 years before retiring. He also owned and operated Jim Muehl Electrical Service for 50 years.  Jim retired from General Motors, Fisher Guide in 1993 after 20 years and had previously worked at Syracuse University and Fred Clement Petroleum in Clintons Ditch. Jim was a member of the Kiwanis Club, the American Legion Post #1832, the 174th Alumni Association, and the Mattydale Hinsdale Chamber of Commerce. He was a longtime communicant of St. Margaret's Church where he served as an usher and Eucharistic Minister and volunteered for any maintenance projects the Church needed.

He was predeceased by his siblings: Martin J. Muehl, Catherine Muehl, and Odelia Leroux.

Jim is survived by his wife of 62 years, the former Delcie (Childs); their two daughters, Mary Ward of Mattydale and Jane Muehl of Central Square; two grandchildren, Danielle and  Jennifer Pope; his two great grandchildren, Jaylin and Ryin Pope; nine siblings: Cecilia LaPlante of Florida, Nora Brockway of N. Bangor, NY, David Muehl of Bangor, NY, Carol Vancour of Montana, George Muehl of Vermont, Agnes Thater of Syracuse, Thomas Muehl of Oneida, Martina Zimmer of Wisconsin, and Gerald Muehl of Florida; as well as several nieces and nephews.  

Contributions in Jim's memory may be made to North Area Meals on Wheels, 413 Church Street, North Syracuse, NY 13212 or to a charity of your choice.

Friends may call on Tuesday from 4:00 -7:00 pm at Krueger Funeral Home, 2619 Brewerton Rd., Mattydale. Prayer Services will begin on Wednesday, 9:30 am, at the funeral home followed by a 10:00 am Mass of Christian Burial at St. Margaret's Church. Burial will be in North Syracuse Cemetery.
