James Procopio, 90, a devoted husband, father, and grandfather, passed away peacefully and comfortably at home with his family by his side on October 30, 2024. Born on April 1, 1934, Jim lived his life for his family which was everything to him. His love for them was unshakeable. He attended Central High and a proud veteran, serving in the United States Marine Corps during the Korean Conflict. He was an expert marksman whose time in the military instilled in him values of discipline and perseverance, which he carried throughout his life. He was discharged in 1955 after attaining the rank of Sgt.
James worked at NAPA Auto Parts – Genuine Auto Parts in Syracuse for a total of 43 years. Jim started his career as a store manager and retired after 31 years as their purchasing manager in 1999. His work ethic exemplified his character, and he approached every task with dedication. James enjoyed playing softball, football and golfing. He was an avid S.U. sports fan and a fan of the NY Yankees. He was a member of the Mattydale American Legion Post #1832 and a longtime communicant of St. Margaret's Church.
He leaves on this earth to cherish his beautiful memory, his son, James (Julie Wright) Procopio of Georgetown, and his daughter, Joann (Paul) Scarsciotti of East Syracuse; a brother, Paul Procopio of Syracuse; a sister, Patricia (James) Hart of Clay; his granddaughter, Chelsea Procopio; step-grandson, Brandon Wright; and many nieces and nephews all of whom loved him so very much..
He was predeceased by his devoted wife of 67 years, Diana, his parents, Dominick and Frances Procopio, and by his brothers: Dominick, Samuel, and Ronald.
Jim had a heart of gold and was there to help anyone in need. He will be missed more than he could ever imagine. He loved animals, especially cats which he and his wife, Diana, would adopt over many years. Friends may call Thursday, November 7, from 4:00 PM - 7:00 PM at Krueger Funeral Home, 2619 Brewerton Road, Mattydale. A prayer service will begin Friday, November 8, 9:30 AM at the funeral home, followed by a 10:00 AM Mass of Christian Burial at St. Margaret's Church. Burial will be at Assumption Cemetery, Syracuse.
