Rocco John

Rocco John, 93, of Mattydale, passed away Wednesday, January 25, 2017, at his home. Rocco was a native of Eastwood who resided in Mattydale for the past 65 years. He was a 1941 graduate of North High and the son of the late Frank and Louise (Berardi) John.

Rocco served in the Army Air Force during World War II earning a Bronze Star. He retired in 1985 after many years as a sheet metal fabricator with Joseph Cashier Inc. in East Syracuse. Rocco was a member of the Sheet Metal Workers Union Local #58 and a member of their Retirees Club as well as a life member of the VFW Post #3146 in Mattydale.

He was predeceased by his wife of 58 years, the former Helen Kunai, in 2010 and by his sons, James, in 1993 and Rocco Jr. in 2007.

Rocco is survived by his children: Walter John of Brewerton, Frank (Richard) John Chudy of FL, and Michael (Loren) John of East Syracuse; a daughter-in-law, Janet John of Clay; his step children: Sharon (Earl) May of Mattydale, Sandra (Michael) Valerio of Memphis, his two sisters: Mary J. Brice of Syracuse and her son, Frank R. Brice, and Rose Lella-Windsor of Henderson, NV; 20 grandchildren; 27 great grandchildren; and by his nieces and nephews.

Friends may call on Tuesday from 4 - 7 pm at Krueger Funeral Home, 2619 Brewerton Rd., Mattydale. Funeral Services are Wednesday, 11 am, at the funeral home with burial in Assumption Cemetery, Syracuse.
