Marion E. Johnson, a resident of the Life Care Center of Littleton, Massachusetts, died Wednesday. A native of Portland, Ontario, Canada, Marion resided in Mattydale for 85 years until moving to Littleton in 2006.
She was a graduate of North High School, Syracuse Normal School and Syracuse University and taught school in the North Syracuse and Liverpool School Districts for over 35 years. She was a teacher at heart and truly loved all of her first grade students. She would often meet former students' years later, or see an article in the paper about them, and would recall them vividly as they were years earlier in her classroom. She retired in 1977. Marion was a life long, devoted member of the Calvary United Methodist Church and was a member of the Church Choir, Pastor Parish Committee, United Methodist Women, Bible Study group and the Mission Circle. She also was a member of the New York State Teachers Association, Onondaga County Teachers Association, a member of the Friends of Salina Free Library and a member of the Board of Directors of the Pitcher Hill Apartment Complex. She was always active and loved to cook, garden and read. She was a gentle soul but a tower of strength.
She was preceded in death by her loving husband, Carl, in 1992 and her son Wayne in 1986. She is survived by her three sons, David W. Johnson, and wife Shirleen, of Canal Winchester, Ohio, Bruce G. Johnson, and wife Sheilah, of Leominster, Massachusetts and Carl E. Johnson, Jr. and partner Lawrence Seeger, of Palm Springs, California, and her 5 grandchildren, 7 great grandchildren and 1 great-great granddaughter.
